Manchester United have done it! Bryan Mbeumo to join Red Devils in £71m deal after breakthrough in negotiations with Brentford
Manchester United have reportedly sealed a £71 million deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, landing one of the Premier League’s most consistent attackers after weeks of intense negotiations.
The move marks a major coup for United, with Mbeumo said to have prioritised a switch to Old Trafford over rival offers from Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle.
According to The Athletic, the deal will see United pay an initial £65 million in instalments, with a further £6 million in performance-related add-ons.
The 26-year-old Cameroonian international becomes United’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, as the club continues to reshape its frontline under new manager Rúben Amorim.
Mbeumo had a standout 2024/25 season, registering 20 goals and 8 assists in 38 Premier League matches. His pace, directness, and ability to operate across the front line made him a top priority for United’s recruitment team. The former Brentford talisman leaves the Bees after an impressive six-year spell, during which he tallied 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances.
Negotiations between the two clubs were protracted, with United seeing two initial bids turned down before agreeing to Brentford’s valuation. The West London side had also rejected offers for Yoane Wissa, signaling that only one key forward would depart this summer.
Mbeumo’s impending arrival is expected to provide Amorim with increased tactical flexibility as United look to bounce back stronger in the 2025/26 campaign. He will now undergo medical checks and finalize personal terms before being officially unveiled as a Manchester United player.
The Red Devils are also expected to sanction player departures in the coming weeks to balance their books following another major financial outlay.
