Maduka Okoye Appointed Enugu State Ambassador, Set to Launch Football Academy and Foundation

Super Eagles shot-stopper Maduka Okoye has been officially appointed as an ambassador of Enugu State by Governor Peter Mbah in recognition of his achievements on the football field and his commitment to empowering young people through sports.
The honour was announced during Okoye’s courtesy visit to the Lion Building on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. During the meeting, discussions centred on collaborative efforts to use sports as a catalyst for youth development and economic transformation in the state.
Governor Mbah praised the Udinese goalkeeper for his outstanding performances on both local and global stages, describing him as “a proud son of Enugu.” He further revealed that Okoye intends to establish a charitable foundation and a football academy in the state initiatives the government fully supports.
“It was a pleasure welcoming Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to the Lion Building today,” the governor shared. “A proud son of Enugu, he continues to shine on both national and international platforms, and he is eager to give back to his roots.”
Governor Mbah also pledged to allocate land for the proposed football academy and extended a personal invitation to Okoye to participate in the upcoming Enugu International Marathon.
“In honour of his accomplishments and his commitment to youth development, I am proud to appoint him as an ambassador of Enugu State. He will be a role model for our children, especially in our Smart Green Schools,” he added.

Okoye expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition and warm welcome, describing the encounter as a deeply meaningful moment in his life.
“I’m truly grateful to be welcomed back by His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah,” he said. “It was a memorable encounter focused on Enugu’s growth through sports and economic initiatives.”
He lauded the governor’s development vision and affirmed his dedication to supporting the state’s progress through his foundation and football academy.
The appointment further cements Okoye’s influence beyond football, positioning him as a key figure in grassroots development efforts in Enugu State.
