Lojay, the soulful voice behind hits like Monalisa, has peeled back another layer of his journey, speaking openly about the emotional battles that shaped both his life and his music.
In a heartfelt conversation with The Nation, the singer revealed how a past relationship once pushed him to the point of losing his identity.

“There was a point where I loved someone deeply but lost myself in the process,” he admitted, a reflection that hints at just how consuming the experience had been. “Love should add to you, not erase you. Since then, I’ve written from a place of balance loving, but with awareness.”
Known for channeling raw feelings into his music, Lojay explained how that chapter reshaped his entire approach to love, creativity, and even fame.
He spoke about handling the constant attention, especially from female fans — a part of the job that can easily get overwhelming if not managed carefully.
“I appreciate the love, genuinely,” he said. “But I’ve learned balance. You can’t feed every type of energy. Once you lose that boundary, the music starts to feel performative instead of real.”
Now preparing to release his debut album XOXO, Lojay describes this next project as a collection born from clarity rather than chaos. Every phase of his artistry, he says, reflects a chapter of his emotional journey.
“LV N ATTN was desire, Gangster Romantic was heartbreak, and XOXO is acceptance,” he explained. “It’s about loving, losing, healing, and still choosing to love again — just differently.”
Even as his global audience grows, Lojay stays grounded by leaning on the people and practices that centre him.
“Sometimes I just disappear for a bit… no music, no social media. Just time to breathe and reconnect with God and my people,” he said.
With XOXO, he hopes listeners won’t just hear the music but feel it — feel him.
“If someone finishes the album and says, ‘Yeah, I’ve been there,’ then I did my job.”
