Liverpool agree deal to appoint Arne Slot as next manager
Liverpool FC has reached an agreement to bring Arne Slot on board as their next manager, succeeding Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.
Negotiations for compensation with Feyenoord, Slot’s current club, concluded on Friday, paving the way for the Dutch boss’s move to Anfield.
Slot’s public declaration of interest in the Liverpool job on Thursday spurred negotiations, as there was no release clause in his contract. Finally, an agreement was reached between Liverpool and Feyenoord after extensive talks.
Jurgen Klopp gave his approval for Slot earlier in the day, praising the Dutchman’s tactical acumen. Liverpool had explored other options, including Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim, before settling on Slot. Alonso, now with Bayer Leverkusen, declined Liverpool’s offer, while Amorim of Sporting CP was not pursued further.
Slot, who guided Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season, currently oversees a strong campaign in the Dutch league, with his team trailing leaders PSV Eindhoven by nine points.

Speaking post-match, Slot provided another update on negotiations and further explained why he wants to be the new manager of Liverpool.
“I’m having a great time at Feyenoord, but when a club like Liverpool comes forward, it would be crazy if I didn’t think that was a great next step,” Slot said.
“The clubs are in negotiations. I am waiting to hear, just like I was before the game. If an agreement is reached, there will be follow-up discussions. Everyone understands Feyenoord wants to get the most [compensation] out of it.
“But I believe they’ll let me get the most out of it as well. Joining Liverpool would be a massive step for me. I just have to let the clubs do their job and wait. It’s no secret I want to go to Liverpool.”
