Liverpool confirm signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
Liverpool have announced the signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister on a long-term contract.
The 24-year-old was one of the Reds’ top targets this summer as they looked to add some youth to their seasoned midfield, and they moved fast to land their man.
The 2022 World Cup winner joined the Seagulls in 2019 but had a breakout season this season, scoring 12 goals and assisting three times in 40 games as Brighton earned their first European position.
After starring in Argentina’s spectacular run in Qatar, Mac Allister became one of the most sought-after names in his position, with Liverpool successfully fending off competition to capture the 24-year-old in a rumoured £35 million ($44m) move.
The Albiceleste star, who will wear the No.10 shirt at Anfield, joins the Reds after the club agreed to activate the player’s buyout option after medicals were completed satisfactorily on Tuesday.
Mac Allister has told the Reds’ official website: “It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started. I wanted to be in [from] the first day of pre-season, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates. It was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.”

As a result, Liverpool get a major summer transaction completed early, as Jurgen Klopp begins a much-needed midfield rebuild. Other prospective signings are Wolves’ Matheus Nunes, Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach, and Khephren Thuram of Nice.
Despite being totally Argentine, Mac Allister’s British-sounding name stems from his family’s origins in Fife, Eastern Scotland, before moving to Ireland and finally settling in South America in 1868.
As an early signing, the Argentine midfielder will be fully incorporated into Klopp’s pre-season camp, where Liverpool will attempt to reclaim a top-four spot after missing out on the Champions League for the first time in seven years this season.
