Robert Lewandowski has addressed speculation about his future, particularly regarding a potential move to Barcelona or considering options in the United States or Saudi Arabia.

Despite approaching his 36th birthday and experiencing a dip in his goal-scoring output, Lewandowski seems committed to seeing out the remaining two years of his contract at Barcelona. While his goal tally for the current season is lower than usual, he remains steadfast in his decision not to pursue opportunities in leagues like Major League Soccer or the Saudi Pro League.

With just 13 goals in 29 La Liga appearances (20 in all competitions), this season marks a notable decline for Lewandowski, especially considering his typically prolific scoring record. However, he remains determined to continue competing at the highest level, echoing the career trajectories of players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Karim Benzema, who maintained their effectiveness well into their thirties. Despite speculation linking him to moves to less competitive leagues, Lewandowski seems focused on his current path with Barcelona.

• Lewandowski told SPORT BILD: “Saying goodbye [to Barcelona] is definitely out of the question for me [this summer]. I feel physically good again now. I had physical problems in the first half of the season. Things got better in 2024. As long as I continue to feel as good as I do now and notice in training that no one is outrunning me, I want to keep playing. As of today, I say: This will continue for at least two more years. Only when I notice that I am no longer physically at top level and am in pain would I start to think. That’s not the case.

  “I haven’t bothered with [Saudi Arabia] for a second so far. Neither Saudi Arabia nor to the USA. That doesn’t make sense at the moment. At some point it’s about what my heart and my head say. When I’m 38 years old and the pain comes, I have to ask myself: Do I even want to continue? But I don’t want to plan that far yet. Currently I say: I can definitely play at this highest level by 2026.”

  With Real Madrid firmly leading the pack in La Liga and Champions League qualification nearly guaranteed, Barcelona finds themselves with little more than pride at stake. However, they remain focused on finishing the season strongly under the leadership of Xavi, who has confirmed his stay with the club.

  Following Monday’s match against Valencia, Barcelona’s remaining fixtures include matchups against Girona, Real Sociedad, Almeria, Rayo Vallecano, and Sevilla. As the season draws to a close, Barcelona aims to build momentum and optimism for the upcoming 2024–25 campaign.
