Legendury Beatz is the duo doing justice to afrobeats with their fingers
These days, Legendury Beatz has ascended into the OG realm and they have become kingmakers and these are reasons that Legendury Beatz is the duo doing justice to afrobeats with their fingers.
Legendury Beatz is a Nigerian record producing and songwriting duo, composed of siblings Uzezi Oniko (born 17 February 1986) and Okiemute Oniko or Mutay (born 27 May 1989).
Their production style is deeply rooted in afrobeat as well as in several other genres, including hip hop, reggae fusion, moombahton, and electro house.
With less than a year as a music production duo, Legendury Beatz made international headlines in the Nigerian recording industry by producing the critically acclaimed single “Azonto”, which was performed by afrobeat recording artist and MOBO Award winner Wizkid.
Throughout their career, they have been noted for their extensive work with Wizkid. They have also been noted for writing and producing a consecutive string of hits.
The duo has produced many songs with vocal contributions from artists such as American rapper Wale, British rappers Tinie Tempah and Yxng Bane, Urbano Latino artists Bad Bunny and J Balvin, 2face, Ice Prince, Efya, Banky W, Seyi Shay, and Chidinma, amongst others.
Legendury Beatz was living with Wizkid as he made Ayo, his last album with EME. The recording was done and dusted. But Mut4y – who was more familiar with FL Studio – was trying to learn how to use Logic from Maleek Berry, who was also living with Wizkid at the time.
After learning how to record with the software, he was messing around with the producing effects on it.
He was playing with the riffs and percussion on the original ‘Ojuelegba’ beat when Wizkid heard it from his room upstairs and came downstairs.
Legendury Beatz and Wizkid’s production catalog include songs like “Ginger”, “Caro”, “Talk”, “Eledumare”, “Number One Lover”, Won Gbo Mi”, “Juru” and “Emi Ni Baller” (Remix).
On 29 April 2013, Legendury Beatz was signed to Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment.
The duo produced four songs on his second studio album, Ayo.
The song “Ojuelegba” was well-received across different social media platforms. It contributed to the overall success of the album, which received a positive review from Rolling Stone magazine.
Wizkid added contributing vocals to the duo’s first single “Oje”.
Legendury Beatz and Simi collaborated on “Ayo”, the third single from her third studio album Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. 1.
In their essence, Legendury Beatz is a responsible, married businessman, who just wants to create and excel according to their mandate from God, they are staunch Christians who revel in their spirituality.
During the lockdown, Mut4y did EU4RIA EP with Elhi.
Having worked with everybody, Legendury Beatz now wants to release their debut album.
A dream project, they are taking their time with it. They are also looking out for versatile young talent to work with.
At this time, you can anticipate everybody that matters on the project. But even the brothers don’t know what will be on the album yet.
While the brothers are no longer signed to Starboy, the brotherhood forged in 2012 still goes strong.
They still enjoy creating with each other and Wizkid continues to trust and appreciate his brothers.
