The year 2020 saw a slew of new talent come into the entertainment industry, with Laycon, the winner of BBNaija Season 5, being one among them, and now is how he journey from emerging star to headlining a concert at the Eko Hotel.
Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe, commonly known as Laycon, is a Nigerian rapper, musician, and composer who was born on November 8, 1993, and is a graduate of philosophy from the University of Lagos.
He became famous after winning the reality television show Big Brother Naija Season 5.

Before the show, Laycon has been on the verge of becoming the best in his music career, he was determined to remain relevant over changing times, as it was so obvious in his artistic ability to absorb and release the right energy towards the expectation.
Laycon released his first EP, ‘Young Black and Gifted,’ in 2016. The project depicted a young man who was dedicated to his work and ambitious for success, about 5 years ago.
He then published his successful single ‘Fierce’ with an assist from a household name ‘Reminisce and Chinko Ekun’ three years later on a six-track collection named ‘Any Given Monday (The Playlist)’.

Given the expectation that people have about every BBNaija contestant with musical talents on their inability to find their roots in the music industry, In Laycon‘s case, this stereotype could have been accurate if he had never ventured into anything music-related prior to the reality show.
All of his releases happened before the show, one of the major reasons that should overwrite this stereotype.
In 2020, Laycon released an 8 track EP titled ‘Who is Laycon‘ that features his 2019 single ‘Fierce‘ featuring two indigenous rappers (Reminisce and Chinko Ekun), the single gained massive airplay across the nation.
Laycon being shortlisted as a contestant in the popular reality Tv show was a total turnaround for him as he was people’s favourite during the show, his game and tactics on the Show were topnotch even when he was the least favourite out of the 20 contestants at the beginning of the show, simply because of his orientation and humility.
He was introduced to a larger audience from the show, who then discovered his talent in music and showered him with support (vote), even at the BBnaija show, DJ Neptune offered him to be on the Remix of his 2020 hit song titled ‘Nobody‘ alongside Joeboy and Mr Eazi, which was recorded after the show, and yes! as usual, he delivered so effortlessly.

The best gift he had from the show was not the 85 million naira prize, yes! But the emergence of his large fanbase called the ‘Icons‘, is one of the major advantages in the music industry as an artiste, especially in this streaming era, which has translated to huge numbers on youtube and other streaming platforms.
After the show, Laycon served a visual to his Deshinor assisted the second single off his EP ‘Who is Laycon‘ he also graced the mic as a guest act on popular Jimmy Jatt show tagged ‘Jimmy Jumps Off‘ a typical live rap show.
Laycon headlined the maiden edition of his concert in 5,000 capacity Eko Hotel, Lagos and tagged it ICONS Fest.
