Kylian Mbappe confirms decision to leave PSG
Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his intention to depart the club this summer, as reported by reliable sources. With only a year remaining on his contract, Mbappe had promised Al-Khelaifi that he would personally communicate his decision once it was made.
It is now confirmed that Mbappe plans to leave PSG this summer, although the specifics of his departure are still being negotiated. Official confirmation from PSG is pending until all details are finalized. While the possibility of a new contract with an agreement for a subsequent sale has not been entirely ruled out, it is considered unlikely.
Mbappe has not yet determined his next destination and has stated to Al-Khelaifi that he has not reached any agreement with Real Madrid. Although Madrid has made an offer, reportedly similar to the terms presented to Mbappe during his previous free agency in 2021, he remains undecided.
In the event of Mbappe departing on a free transfer, PSG will not suffer financial losses due to a pre-existing agreement with the player. Mbappe had agreed to reimburse approximately €80 million if he were to allow his contract to expire.
His departure will significantly reduce PSG’s expenses, saving them nearly €200 million annually. This aligns with the club’s strategy to transition away from reliance on superstar names and focus on developing young talents like Warren Zaire-Emery and Xavi Simons.
While PSG made efforts to retain Mbappe by offering a lucrative contract extension worth €70 million per year, they have also been preparing for his departure by identifying potential replacements. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are among the players being considered as replacements.
