Popular Nigerian singer Korede Bello has shared a deeply personal reflection on faith, opening up about his spiritual journey and his views on core Christian beliefs.

In a thoughtful video posted on his Instagram page, the singer revealed that he was born into Islam but later chose Christianity after personally studying the Bible. According to Bello, his decision was driven by conviction rather than religious pressure or social influence.
In the video, he addressed the way Jesus Christ is often portrayed in Christian symbolism, questioning the constant emphasis on the crucifixion while urging believers to focus more on the resurrection.
“Does Jesus still belong on the cross? Before you crucify me, please be aware that I am a Christian and Christ has already died for me,” Bello said. “He has already been crucified for me, so there’ll be no need for that.”
He was quick to clarify that his message was not meant to dismiss the importance of the cross. Instead, he explained that his reflection was about shifting attention to the resurrection, which he believes is central to Christian faith.
“Am I saying the cross is not important? No,” he stated, explaining that the thought came to him during a moment of prayer. Bello said that as he looked at the cross, it suddenly dawned on him that Jesus is no longer on it but has ascended.
“I was praying and looking at the cross when it hit me that He’s no longer on it. When I think Jesus, I think my identity is seated right next to the Father,” he added.
Drawing from biblical teachings, Bello referenced Apostle Paul’s assertion that without the resurrection, faith is meaningless. He stressed that Christianity should be anchored in the risen Christ, not only in the imagery of suffering and crucifixion.
The singer also spoke candidly about his background, revealing that his journey into Christianity was a conscious and personal choice.
“I was not born a Christian. I was born a Muslim. I had to study the Bible myself, not for religious reasons but for personal reasons,” he explained.
Bello expressed concern that many believers remain fixated on the cross, arguing that Christian identity should be rooted in Christ’s resurrection and ascension rather than continually revisiting His death.
“Our faith and identity are in the Christ who has ascended and is right next to the Father. Staying on the cross is like nailing Christ over and over again,” he said.
He went on to emphasise that love, not symbolism, is the true marker of Christianity. Quoting Jesus’ words, Bello noted that believers are meant to be recognised by the love they show to one another.
He also pointed to communion as the proper form of remembrance, reminding followers that Jesus instructed them to remember Him through the breaking of bread and the drinking of wine.
Wrapping up his message, Korede Bello encouraged Christians to live lives that reflect renewal, growth and Christ-like character.
“Be well, be safe, be renewed, and be Christ-like. Think mega,” he concluded.
