Korede Bello laments decline in music quality as young artists dominate industry
Nigerian singer Korede Bello has voiced concerns about the decline in music quality within the industry, attributing it to the rise of young artists who lack life experiences.
In a recent appearance on Hip TV’s “Trending,” hosted by Kim Oprah, Korede Bello remarked, “When young artists start blowing up, the quality of the music declines because they haven’t yet had meaningful life experiences.”
He elaborated, stating, “They don’t fully understand how to live yet. Young people are focused on living large, and that’s what their music reflects.”
Korede Bello contrasted this with older artists who have used their life experiences to create impactful music. “If you listen to artists like African China, Timaya, or Fela, their songs are rooted in real experiences—they’ve seen and lived through things.”
While acknowledging the talent of younger artists, Korede Bello emphasized, “We shouldn’t blame them; they can only offer what they’ve experienced.”

In a recent interview with Hip TV, the “Godwin” singer explained that his departure was driven by a need to reevaluate his personal growth and artistic purpose.
Bello shared, “I was at a season in my life where I needed to metamorphose, to explore my inner worth, to do introspection, understand myself, understand meaning more, and reconnect to my why.”
He further elaborated that he began to feel like a “product” focused solely on generating revenue for the label, saying, “You lose sight of what matters when you chase after the next hit, the next whatever it is that can get you into conversations. A lot of artists are addicted to that circle.”
