Ghanaian highlife and afrobeats singer-songwriter Gregory Bortey Newman, better known by his stage name King Promise, has revealed why he doesn’t win awards in Ghana.

The Ghanaian artist expressed his sentiments about why he has been snubbed and ignored by various award schemes in Ghana despite his fame and hard work.

In an interview with the media legend Deloris Frimpong Manso on the Delay Show, King Promise said that many industry players had discussions with him about not getting involved in practically all of the industry activity in Ghana.

He said that some people claim that he feels very superior to himself to mingle with music works relating to the industry, hence they would teach him a lesson by snubbing him on award schemes.

King Promise acknowledged that his record was the most streamed in Ghanaian history despite the fact that he wasn’t nominated for “Album of the Year” that specific year.

Additionally, he said that when he didn’t have an album to support his claims of victory in some award programs, he was nominated in the “Artist of the Year” category, which to him makes no sense given the requirements for that category.

He added that he usually tops the charts in Ghana after practically every award event since his fans are generally disappointed when he is not nominated or does not receive recognition for his efforts, but he is unconcerned in any case.
