A Los Angeles judge sentenced the killer convicted of shooting Nipsey Hussle to 60 years to life in prison on Wednesday after hearing testimonies about the enormous cost of the hip-hop artist and community leader’s murder as well as the history of mental illness, abuse, and struggle of the shooter.
Eric R. Holder Jr., 33, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke II for the 2019 first-degree murder of the 33-year-old Grammy-nominated hip-hop singer outside the Marathon clothing store Hussle founded in the South Los Angeles neighbourhood where both men grew up in very similar conditions.
Grammy-nominated musician Hussle passed away at the age of 33. In the attack, two spectators were also hit and injured.
After hearing from one of Hussle’s friends and reading a letter from Holder’s father, Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke announced Holder’s 60 years to life sentence on Wednesday.

After a drawn-out trial that lasted several months, Holder was found guilty of murder as well as two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter for the two bystanders who were shot.
The general consensus was that he would receive a life sentence because he was not eligible for the capital penalty.
However, Jacke gave Holder a sentence of 25 to life in prison for the murder, 25 more for the firearms-related sentencing enhancement, and 10 years for the use of a handgun in an unlawful manner.
He added many additional sentences and mandated that some run concurrently. Also, he praised Holder for the nearly four years that have passed since the shooting.
Judge H. Clay Jacke of the Los Angeles County Superior Court sentenced Holder to a minimum of 25 years in prison for the murder and an extra 25 years because a firearm was used in the crime.
Holder was sentenced to an additional ten years in prison for shooting and injuring two other men nearby.
“I am very mindful of what was presented as to Mr. Holder’ mental health,” Jacke said. “I am also mindful of the devastation caused to the victims and their families. I believe this sentence balances the two.”
