Kanye West has officially changed his name to “Ye.”
Kanye West has a new moniker. The Los Angeles Superior Court confirmed to Rolling Stone that the artist formerly known as Kanye West is now legally “Ye.”
The rapper’s petition for a name change was approved by Judge Michelle Williams Court.
On August 24, 2021, the musician filed the petition, stating “personal reasons” for the change with no additional explanation.

Ye released an album of the same name in 2018, despite the fact that it was a frequent abbreviation of his stage name prior to the project’s debut.
The rapper had hinted at his name change all the way back in 2018.
“The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE,” he tweeted. The post arrived mere months after the rapper released his 2018 studio album Ye.
Also in 2018, he told the radio host Big Boy,
“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible. In the Bible it means you. So, I’m you. And I’m us. It’s us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one to just Ye, just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused—everything. It’s more of a reflection of who we are [as] beings.”
With the petition approved, the 44-year-old musician has no middle or last name. It’s just Ye.
