Manchester City agree deal to send Kalvin Phillips out on loan.
According to reports, West Ham United has reached an agreement with Manchester City for the loan of Kalvin Phillips.
The 28-year-old midfielder has been on the periphery of City’s team during his 18-month tenure, playing only 390 minutes of Premier League football across 16 appearances. While Phillips has featured more regularly in cup competitions and European matches, the arrival of Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes has increased competition in the midfield, primarily led by Rodri.
West Ham has secured a loan deal for Phillips until the end of the season, with the Europa Conference League winners covering his wages. The agreement is reported to include an option to buy in the summer, with City hoping to recoup a significant portion of the £42 million fee they paid to Leeds United in July 2022. West Ham successfully fended off interest from clubs such as Newcastle United and Juventus to secure Phillips.
Following the sale of captain Declan Rice to Arsenal last summer for a British-record £105 million fee, West Ham used the funds to bolster their squad with signings like Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, and Mohammed Kudus. Phillips’s arrival is expected to provide additional depth in central midfield, allowing manager David Moyes to rotate players during a demanding end to the season, particularly as West Ham progresses in the Europa League knockout stages. Phillips’s potential addition, pending a successful medical, could also free up Lucas Paqueta to continue excelling in a wide role.
