Arsenal’s win at Man Utd keeps title hopes alive; Kai Havertz declares himself Tottenham’s biggest fan
Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has declared his allegiance to rival Tottenham Hotspur in a bid to assist Arsenal in clinching the Premier League title. Following Arsenal’s crucial 1-0 victory over Manchester United, propelling them a point clear of Manchester City in second place, the title race is set to extend to the final day of the season.
Despite Arsenal’s current lead, Manchester City still have a game in hand, scheduled away at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday evening. Historically, City has struggled at this venue, failing to score in every Premier League encounter.
Havertz, who provided the winning assist for Leandro Trossard at Old Trafford, expressed to Sky Sports his willingness to support Arsenal’s north London rivals, hoping they will aid Arsenal’s title aspirations.
“I’m going to be the biggest fan of Tottenham ever!” he said. “Let’s hope for the best.
“We have to win every single game as City are always keeping the pressure on.
“It is so nice to be in the [title] race and every week you have to play at your best. When you do it, it feels even better. We have one game and we need the whole club behind us – anything is possible.”
Tottenham find themselves in a position where a victory against City could breathe life into their slim hopes of Champions League qualification. Their recent 2-1 win against Burnley narrowed the gap to fourth-place Aston Villa to just four points. However, Villa’s fate hinges on their Monday night clash against Liverpool. Should Villa falter and Spurs triumph over City, Ange Postecoglou’s side would enter the final day of the season trailing Villa by just a single point.
On the other hand, if City manages only a draw against Tottenham, they would trail Arsenal solely on goal difference, with the Gunners edging ahead by three. City’s final fixture sees them facing West Ham United, while Arsenal concludes their campaign with a home fixture against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.
