King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal Breaks Silence on Abuja Airport Incident, Says He Was Victim of Misunderstanding

Legendary Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as K1 De Ultimate, has responded to the controversy surrounding an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025, involving ValueJet officials.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, the veteran performer denied allegations suggesting he had been disruptive or posed any form of security risk during a heated moment captured in a viral video.
Initial media reports claimed the music icon had clashed with airport staff and narrowly escaped being hit by a moving aircraft following a boarding-related misunderstanding. However, Kwam 1’s camp has dismissed these narratives, insisting the incident was blown out of proportion and misrepresented in the public domain.
According to the statement, the drama began when airport security became concerned about a supposed “suspicious substance” found with the singer while he waited in the airport lounge. This item, however, turned out to be a simple bottle of drinking water given to him during the wait.
“Despite his respectful effort to clarify this, the situation was unnecessarily escalated,” the statement read, rejecting claims that Kwam 1 acted inappropriately.
The music icon disclosed that following the confrontation, high-ranking officials from ValueJet, including the airline’s Chairman and Managing Director, personally contacted him to apologise over the incident. In what appears to be a move to make amends, the airline reportedly offered a private jet to transport the Fuji star to Lagos — an offer he turned down.
“If I had done anything wrong, why would the Chairman of the airline and the Head of Airport Security be calling me to apologise?” Kwam 1 questioned, hinting that his reputation was unfairly targeted.
He further alleged that the pilot who was at the centre of the issue had been suspended by the airline, suggesting efforts might be underway to shift blame. “Given the circumstances, it is no surprise if she attempts to deflect blame, surely, she must lie to cover herself up,” he added.
As of press time, ValueJet has neither confirmed nor denied the suspension of the pilot, nor released any public statement addressing the saga.
Meanwhile, the development has continued to generate debate across social media, with fans, aviation stakeholders, and observers demanding more clarity and transparency from the airline and airport authorities.
