Jurgen Klopp issues injury updates on Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister ahead of Crystal Palace clash.
Jurgen Klopp has raised concerns about the availability of Alisson and Alexis MacAllister for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson has been sidelined for the last three games due to a hamstring injury sustained in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City on November 25. On the other hand, Alexis Mac Allister, the World Cup-winning Argentine midfielder, took a few heavy knocks, including one to his ankle, during the 2-0 victory over Sheffield United in the last outing.
When asked about the status of Alisson and Mac Allister, Klopp told reporters, “Alisson looks good. I don’t know if he’s good enough for tomorrow. Macca doesn’t look good. We have to see day by day. We have to see how he shows up. I don’t expect him to be ready for tomorrow.”
In addition to these concerns, Liverpool has already lost Joel Matip to a season-ending ACL injury, and players like Thiago Alcantara, Andy Robertson, and Diogo Jota are currently sidelined. Klopp emphasized the constant challenge faced by Premier League managers in dealing with fitness issues, stating, “Most teams are only two injuries away from a real problem.”
Despite these challenges, Liverpool has coped well with enforced absences this season, suffering only one defeat in 15 Premier League games. With a healthy 34-point tally, they currently sit second in the table, just two points behind Arsenal, and have the opportunity to briefly claim the top spot with a victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
