Jurgen Klopp reveals ‘shock’ reaction to Mohamed Salah injury
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed surprise and concern over Mohamed Salah’s injury during the Africa Cup of Nations. Salah, Liverpool’s top scorer, pulled up with an apparent hamstring injury just before half-time in Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana.
Despite being able to walk off the field unaided, Salah was visibly uncomfortable. Klopp mentioned in a pre-match press conference that he is awaiting more information and tests to determine the extent of Salah’s injury. The situation raises concerns for Liverpool as they await updates on the condition of their star player.
He said, “We don’t know anything. I spoke last night with him and how it is with these injuries, you need further assessment. That’s what they are doing now and then we will know more.”
The German then revealed his initial reaction to Salah going down, continuing: “Of course, it was in that moment a shock: ‘Oh my God, what is it?’
“You couldn’t see that it was like [being] hit by something with high-intensity, you couldn’t see [that] and then going down, you have these kind of hamstring injuries in a different way but he still felt it and we all know how rarely Mo goes off or needs to go off so there is definitely something and we will see.”
On whether Liverpool will look to send their own medical staff to assess Salah, he added, “We will see, that depends on the diagnosis. There will be an ultrasound and they will do an MRI and then we will know what it is and then we will see what Egypt plans. But it’s too early [to say], sorry.”
Mohamed Salah, currently the Premier League’s top scorer with 14 goals this season, is a crucial player for Liverpool, contributing significantly to their position at the top of the table after 20 games. Liverpool’s sole defeat in the league was marred by VAR errors, with Salah leading the team’s offensive efforts.
Despite Liverpool’s success, there are ongoing speculations about Salah’s future, with reports suggesting interest from Saudi Pro League clubs. Al-Ittihad attempted to sign Salah in August, but the move was unsuccessful. It’s now anticipated that Al Hilal, another club backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), will be in contention for Salah’s services in the upcoming summer transfer window. The situation adds an element of uncertainty to Salah’s future with Liverpool.
