Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, professionally known as Mohbad, has revealed that the long-awaited burial of his son will take place immediately after the completion of the ongoing DNA test.
In a viral video circulating online on Tuesday, Aloba described the DNA test as the “most important factor” delaying the final burial rites of the 27-year-old artist, whose death on September 12, 2025, sparked nationwide controversy and calls for justice.
“Today is the DNA court case, my lawyer is here, and I am telling the whole world that this is the most important thing,” he said. “This is what has been delaying the burial of Mohbad. After the DNA is done, we will immediately move on to the burial.”
The singer’s father has been engaged in a prolonged legal dispute with Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, over the paternity of their son, Liam, a conflict that has attracted significant public attention.
Earlier reports indicated that Wunmi had filed formal documents at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, to prevent any unauthorized attempts to claim or administer the late singer’s estate.
In a notice dated November 19, 2025, submitted by her lawyers, Salawu, Akingbolu & Co., Wunmi confirmed that she filed Form 5 and Form 6 to bar the issuance of Letters of Administration to anyone not recognized by law.
The legal notice, signed by I.P. Awo (Esq.), identified Wunmi as the legal wife of the deceased and the mother of his only surviving child, Master Liam Aloba. Public announcements were also placed in national newspapers in November 2025, warning against any “surreptitious or fraudulent attempts” to take control of the estate.
According to her legal team, the notice remains binding until the court formally administers Mohbad’s estate.
“Finally The DNA test date will be fixed, and that is the most important thing. Once it is done, Mohbad will be buried.”
