Joeboy says he raises awareness on Domestic Violence with ‘Better’
Nigerian artist Joeboy shares how he uses his song Better to raise awareness about domestic violence.
During a recent show titled “24 Hours with Joeboy,” the artist discussed the powerful message behind “Better,” emphasizing its focus on addressing domestic violence against women.
“I wanted to shed light on domestic violence against women,” Joeboy stated. “Sometimes women are not treated properly, especially in African society.”

Released in 2023, “Better” transcends its Afropop beats to address the serious reality faced by many women. In the lyrics, Joeboy sings, “Is he the reason for the scar on your face? If na so then me I fit to put a fucking bullet in his head (o yeah).” For Joeboy, this was a direct admonition aimed at women experiencing domestic violence.
Joeboy isn’t shy about discussing relationships in his music. His songs frequently explore themes of relationships and love, and he has been open about his own romantic experiences. This focus continues in his latest collaboration with Qing Madi, titled “Adenuga,” where Joeboy reflects on love and his desire for personal growth within it.
Recall, Joeboy offered relationship advice for men. According to him, a clear indication of a woman’s genuine interest in a man is her willingness to invest in him financially.
Speaking in a recent episode of Madame Joyce’s ‘Cocktails & Takeaways’ podcast, Joeboy said, “the easiest way to know if a woman genuinely likes you is if she’s ready to spend on you.
It doesn’t have to be anything crazy [expensive]. It can be just a situation of ‘Oh! I saw this shirt that I really like and I think it will look good on you. Three months into a relationship, you can start expecting gifts from your partner. It doesn’t have to be something expensive, just little things.
A lot of people don’t understand that men are not used to getting gifts so whenever they get a gift even if it’s socks, we appreciate it a lot.”
