Joeboy exits Empawa, sets up new record label in partnership with Warner Music
Afrobeats superstar Joseph Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has begun a new chapter in his career and made a major advancement in his remarkable five-year career by inking a dual deal with global music giant Warner Music, which is home to superstars like Ed Sheeran, Cardi B, Burna Boy, and Ckay.
Under the terms of the two-way contract, Joeboy will become the next African flagship artist for Warner Music, in addition to starting his own entertainment company, Young Legend.
This deal marks Joeboy’s exit from Empawa after five successful years, during which he released two EPs, two albums, and numerous hit singles.
In this dual deal, Joeboy launches his own entertainment outfit called Young Legend and becomes Warner Music’s latest flagship artist out of Africa. Under the Young Legend label, Joeboy assumes the role of CEO, while Deola Jaiyesimi serves as the head of the label, tasked with cultivating the next generation of Afrobeats superstars on a global stage.
This move reflects Joeboy’s commitment to not only elevate his own musical status but also to use his platform to shine a light on emerging talent in the Afrobeats genre. Joining the ranks of industry figures like Olamide, Don Jazzy, and his former label boss, Mr. Eazi, Joeboy continues to contribute to the global rise of African music.
