In a recent appearance on the Big Talk 108 podcast, Nigerian hip-hop icon Jesse Jagz revealed his belief that his brother, MI Abaga, holds the title of Africa’s greatest rapper.

Reflecting on MI’s influence, Jagz praised his older brother for pushing him to reach his full potential as an artist and described him as “the greatest MC ever in Africa.”

Jesse Jagz’s respect for MI resonates with many hip-hop enthusiasts, as MI is widely regarded as a pivotal figure in the evolution of Nigerian hip-hop. Known for his extensive awards and contributions to the genre, MI popularized Nigerian rap on a global scale, cementing his legacy as a groundbreaking artist.

Interestingly, while Jagz firmly regards MI as Africa’s top MC, he also humorously claimed that he himself is the better rapper between the two. MI has previously acknowledged his brother’s lyrical prowess, even calling Jesse Jagz “Nigeria’s greatest lyricist.”

This mutual admiration between the brothers highlights their unique bond and shared passion for hip-hop.

Jesse Jagz went on to express deep gratitude for MI’s guidance in his musical journey. “It was MI who taught me how to be Jesse Jagz… MI taught us Ice Prince and me how to become an MC that will be respected forever,” he shared. Jesse’s remarks underscore the powerful mentorship that shaped not only his career but also that of fellow rapper Ice Prince.

"M.I taught me how to become Jesse Jagz. When we went to Lagos, M.I made us pay him rent. Nobody owes you sh!t"
