Nigerian singer Jaywon has publicly apologized to Ayra Starr following social media backlash over his comments regarding her absence from the 2025 Grammy nominations.
His initial remarks were perceived by some fans as a slight against the rising star, sparking debate online.
Taking to X, Jaywon shared an apology post in which he praised Ayra Starr’s unique voice and musical talent, calling her “one of Africa’s most gifted female vocalists.” In his message, he stated, “If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has.”

Recall that, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known as Ayra Starr, reflected on how her family keeps her grounded amid her rising fame.
In an interview with Coco Jones for ‘Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians series, Ayra shared that when she’s back in Nigeria, she still enjoys the simple, vibrant family life at home.
“When I go back home [to Nigeria], I still live with my family. My brothers are making noise playing video games,” she said, highlighting the joyful, everyday moments she cherishes.
