Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has spoken candidly about his ongoing struggle with celibacy, describing it as a journey marked by effort, setbacks, and reflection.

Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, the 39-year-old artist revealed that his commitment to celibacy often fluctuates, especially when temptation arises.

“My celibacy fluctuates; it goes up and down. Sometimes you are trying to stay celibate and you run into a girl who gives you all the reasons not to be celibate. You do what you have to do, you now start missing the celibacy again,” Iyanya admitted.

The singer explained that while he makes conscious efforts to stay disciplined, he sometimes breaks his resolve and later finds himself longing for the sense of clarity and control that celibacy brings.

Iyanya also addressed his views on marriage, stating clearly that it is not a priority for him at this stage of his life. According to the singer, he is currently focused on healing and personal growth.

“I am not thinking of getting married… I’m healing,” he said.

He further revealed that honesty has become his guiding principle when meeting new people, noting that he no longer leads anyone on or makes emotional promises he cannot keep.

“When I meet you, I don’t go, ‘Oh! I’m crazy about you.’ I say, ‘Listen, I’m healing. Don’t expect so much from me.’ I’m not in that space and I’m not going to lie to you or play with your emotions,” he added.

Iyanya concluded by reflecting on how maturity has changed his approach to relationships, stressing that clear communication has helped him avoid unnecessary emotional complications for himself and others.
