Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, widely known as Iyanya, has called on fans and the public to show more compassion toward celebrities, reminding everyone that fame doesn’t protect them from emotional or mental struggles.

Taking to X on Sunday, the Your Waist crooner opened up about the realities of living under public scrutiny, an experience he described as “a double-edged sword.”
In his heartfelt post, Iyanya wrote, “We need to understand that celebrities are human with deep emotions and struggles like everyone else. Beyond the glamorization is simply a person simply wishing to be human like the rest of us.”
The singer’s message served as a gentle reminder that behind the glitz, curated social media posts, and red-carpet smiles lies the same human need for understanding and peace.
Iyanya also touched on the unique struggles faced by male celebrities, pointing out how societal pressures make it even harder for them to express vulnerability or seek help.
“For male celebrities, it is always difficult to bounce back after hitting a low point because men are wired to be stoic and not show vulnerability, not to ask for help for fear of being seen as weak,” he added.
His reflection offers a rare, honest glimpse into the emotional toll that fame can take and a call for a culture that allows even those in the spotlight to be seen, heard, and cared for as humans first.
We need to understand that celebs are humans with deep feelings and struggles as everyone else. Beyond the media glamorisation of their lives and personalities is a human simply asking and wishing and yearning to be human like the rest of us. It is a double edged sword.
