Terry G says it’s disrespectful to compare him to Portable

Nigerian street pop icon Terry G has broken his silence on the ongoing comparisons between him and controversial street-hop star Portable, calling them “disrespectful.”
In a post shared on his X account on April 14, 2025, Terry G stated plainly:
“Make una no dey compare me to anyone abeg. I get music wey una still dey dance to after 10 years. Respect that.”
The statement comes in response to constant fan chatter that likens his eccentric style, street influence, and chaotic energy to that of Portable, who has gained notoriety not only for his music but for his frequent run-ins with the law.
Since his breakout days with tracks like “Free Madness”, Terry G carved out a lane with his genre-bending sound, blending Galala, White Garment gospel vibes, hip-hop, and madcap energy that defined a generation. His nickname, Akpako Master, became synonymous with the madness and innovation he brought to Nigerian pop music.
Portable, on the other hand, has been dominating headlines since 2021, often for reasons beyond music. His raw street style, viral catchphrases, and headline-grabbing controversies have made him a social media sensation—and earned him comparisons to Terry G.
But Terry G isn’t having it.
“I See a Bit of Me in Him… But Don’t Compare”
Though Terry G had earlier acknowledged on the Honest Bunch Podcast that he sees a part of himself in Portable, he seems to draw the line at being placed on the same pedestal. The distinction? Legacy.
“I’ve created classics that still rock parties today,” Terry G noted in past interviews. “That’s not something everyone can say.”
Interestingly, despite the tension, the two have worked together before. Portable featured Terry G on his 2023 single “Ogbafia,” and both appeared on C Prince’s “Koba.”
However, Portable is currently remanded in a correctional facility in Kwara State, following a petition by Fuji legend Saheed Osupa, who accused him of criminal defamation, threats, and incitement.
