ID Cabasa Shares Bold Take on Age and Maturity

Veteran Nigerian music executive Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has weighed in on the long-standing belief that age automatically equals wisdom, and he’s not buying into it.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, the 50-year-old producer challenged the popular notion that growing older naturally makes a person wiser. According to him, that assumption has never been entirely accurate.

“The assumption that the older you get, the wiser you are is an assumption that has never been true. I am not saying older people are not smart or wise.

“But most times, people see themselves as wiser because they are more experienced not competent. But most of the experiences that you are bringing, a lot of them are obsolete,” he said.

Cabasa explained that while experience can be valuable, it doesn’t always translate to relevance or competence, especially in a rapidly evolving world. In his view, growth is the real determining factor.

“If you are growing as a person, there is a tendency that as you get older, you are going to be wiser. But that isn’t the case if you are not growing but just aging.

“We are dealing with a generation that came with computer OS but you learned how to use computer. So, we need to be careful not to demand for respect only on the basis of age.”

Clarifying his stance, Cabasa stressed that he was not dismissing the intelligence of older people. Instead, he urged a shift in mindset, one that measures wisdom by continuous learning, adaptability, and competence, rather than simply the number of years lived.

His comments have since sparked conversation online, especially among younger creatives navigating industries where tradition and innovation often collide.
