ID Cabasa reveals the creation process of ‘Olufunmi Reimagined’.
Nigerian legendary producer ID Cabasa recently discussed his reimagined version of the beloved 2006 hit “Olufunmi” by pop group Styl-Plus.
In an interview with the Afrobeats Podcast, Cabasa explained his vision for the project, stating, “I told Olamide I would have loved to have a rapper on ‘Olufunmi Reimagined’. Luckily, Odumodublvck came around, and we connected. He’s a beautiful soul.”
The updated version, titled “Olufunmi Reimagined,” maintains the essence of the original but infuses contemporary Afrobeat and grime sounds. It features a star-studded lineup of Afrobeats artists, including Fireboy DML, Joeboy, BOJ, and Odumodublvck.
The song has gotten mixed reviews from critics. Some have commended its inventive production and different vocal performances, while others argue that it lacks the emotional depth and coherence of the original. Despite the differing viewpoints, the song has been positively received overall.
“Olufunmi Reimagined” is the second reimagined track released by ID Cabasa, following the remake of 9ice’s “Photocopy,” which featured rapper Vector. Cabasa announced that he will be releasing a new album in 2024, with details still under wraps.
