Nigeria is raising a generation of depressed citizens – ID Cabasa laments
Renowned music producer Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has voiced his concern about the mental health of Nigerian youths, stating that the country is raising a generation of depressed individuals.
Taking to his social media platform, ID Cabasa expressed worry about the high prevalence of depression and addiction to hard drugs among the youth population. He highlighted the potential loss of an entire generation to these challenges, shedding light on the urgent need for attention to mental health issues within the Nigerian community.
“We are raising a generation of depressed people who are addicted to drugs. During the COVID-19, we took care of a depressed top artist who was seriously addicted to drugs,” Cabasa wrote.
In other news, the music producer opened up about the reasons behind his falling out with his former signee, Abolore Akande, popularly known as 9ice.
The source of the conflict between Cabasa and 9ice was Cabasa’s decision to continue working with Toni Seun Payne, who managed artists under Cabasa’s Coded Tunes Record label, including 9ice himself and singer Olamide. Payne and 9ice were previously in a relationship, but they went through a breakup.
Cabasa’s choice to keep Payne on his team after the breakup apparently led to a rift between Cabasa and 9ice. According to Cabasa, 9ice was upset by his decision to maintain a working relationship with Payne despite their personal history. It seems that 9ice’s discomfort with this situation contributed to the deterioration of their professional relationship.
Cabasa explained his reasoning for keeping Payne on his team even after her breakup with 9ice. He mentioned that he did it for the sake of 9ice and Payne’s son, Zion, who was born in 2008. By continuing to work with Payne, Cabasa possibly aimed to create a supportive environment for Zion and maintain a sense of stability in his professional and personal life.
He said: “When I started pushing Olamide, you noticed I brought Toni Payne in. 9ice was angry but he had no idea why I brought her in. I brought her in because I needed to keep Payne and her son, Zion, close to 9ice. I felt 9ice may never see his son again if she takes Zion abroad.”
