Joeboy claims he wasn’t ready for fame when I hit stardom
Nigerian artist Joseph Akinfenwa Donus, widely recognized as Joeboy, has revealed that he was caught off guard by fame when it came knocking.
Expressing astonishment, he recounted how his debut hit track, ‘Baby‘, swiftly escalated to international acclaim within a mere three months of its release.
Reflecting on his newfound celebrity status, Joeboy admitted that he hadn’t anticipated being recognized by so many people at such an early stage of his career.
During a discussion on the latest episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast, Joeboy disclosed that fame hit him suddenly, prompting him to relocate from his neighborhood in order to adjust to his altered circumstances.
The singer said: “I wasn’t ready when ‘Baby’ blew. I had to adapt to get used to fame. It was so sudden. I dropped the song [‘Baby’] in March [2019], and by June I was already doing shows in countries I thought they don’t listen to Nigerian music. Countries like Tanzania, and Uganda. In three months!”
