Laycon recalls how he used toilet water to soak garri during my university days
Nigerian singer Laycon recently shared a poignant anecdote from his past on social media, reflecting on a particularly challenging experience during his university days.
In his candid revelation, Laycon recounted a time when he faced extreme hardship, vividly describing it as one of his lowest points before attaining fame.
The 2020 BBNaija winner, now a master’s degree holder from the University of Portsmouth, UK, reminisced about his undergraduate years at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). He recalled a specific incident in 2013 when he found himself in dire circumstances, feeling more than just hunger.
Laycon recounted being alone in his room at Shodeinde Hostel one weekend with no one else around. Faced with profound hunger and limited resources, he found himself compelled to resort to drastic measures.
With no sugar to complement his garri, Laycon revealed that he had no option but to soak it using water from the toilet tap. He expressed that this experience was one of the toughest moments he had ever endured, leading him to tears.
Laycon’s heartfelt narrative serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination he exhibited on his journey to success, resonating with many who have faced similar challenges on their paths to achievement.
He wrote, “One of my lowest lows was using shodeinde hostel toilet water to soak garri in 2013. I was alone in my wing that weekend, and I was starving. I wasn’t hungry o, I was starving. So I soaked Garri with no sugar and used toilet tap water to drink it… as I Dey soak the garri, water dey commot for my eyes.”
