Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ikuforiji Abdulrahman, professionally known as Oxlade, has opened up about his lifestyle choices, revealing that he neither smokes nor uses hard drugs, a decision he attributes to his Christian upbringing and strong family values.

The “Ku Lo Sa” hitmaker disclosed while speaking in an interview with gospel artist Tim Godfrey, where he reflected on how growing up in a faith-driven and musically inclined household shaped his character and career.
Oxlade explained that his early immersion in church activities played a significant role in keeping him grounded, noting that music and worship have always been central to his life.
According to him, his musical journey began in the church choir, where he served in multiple leadership roles across different age groups, including children’s, teen, youth, and mass choirs.
He also highlighted his family’s deep musical roots, revealing that his grandmother, a deaconess, is a gifted singer, while his grandfather played several musical instruments.
Oxlade added that his mother can both sing and dance, and having a pastor in the family further strengthened his spiritual foundation.
The singer stressed that gospel music remains the bedrock of his songwriting, describing it as his strongest creative influence. Reflecting on his career achievements, Oxlade expressed gratitude, attributing his growth and success to divine guidance.
According to him, being able to tour multiple cities with his debut album reassures him that his journey is God-ordained, giving him confidence, peace of mind, and clarity of purpose.
Recall that Oxlade collaborated with Tim Godfrey last year on the gospel-inspired track “Infinity.” The song, which fused gospel elements with Afrobeats, sparked mixed reactions online—drawing criticism from some quarters while earning praise from listeners who saw it as a bold and refreshing crossover.
