Harry Styles stalker sentenced to prison for sending him 8,000 cards in a month
In a recent development in London, Myra Carvalho, a Brazilian national, has been sentenced to 14 weeks in prison for inundating British pop star Harry Styles with a staggering 8,000 cards within a single month. This incident was confirmed by court officials at Harrow Crown Court, where Carvalho pleaded guilty to charges of stalking that caused “serious alarm or distress.”
Alongside her prison term, Carvalho has been slapped with a 10-year restraining order, prohibiting her from attending any event involving Styles or contacting him. This order extends to certain areas of north-west London and mandates Carvalho to pay a victim surcharge of £134.
According to court proceedings, Carvalho, who arrived in the UK in December, operated from a backpacker hostel in south-west London. Her fixation with Styles drove her to send handwritten letters and purchase online cards, which were directly delivered to his residence. Notably, some of these correspondences included wedding cards, with two letters even being hand-delivered.
This case underscores the persistent problem of celebrity stalking, echoing a previous incident in 2019 when Styles was harassed by a homeless individual named Pablo Tarazaga-Orero. Styles has openly discussed the psychological toll such encounters have taken on him, prompting him to bolster his home security and personal safety measures.
This development underscores the UK courts’ firm stance on stalking and harassment, underscoring their commitment to safeguarding individuals’ privacy and well-being.
