Maguire denies he rejected West Ham transfer as he continues to struggle for minutes under Erik ten Hag.
According to Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, he was unable to reach a deal with West Ham during the summer transfer window.
Prior to the current season, West Ham allegedly initiated negotiations with United over a potential signing of the England international.
Nevertheless, no deal was made, and it was said that Maguire declined their offer to remain at Old Trafford, although the center-back disputes that.
Under coach Erik ten Hag, Maguire has had trouble getting playing time at United. In the Premier League this year, he has only made three appearances, just one of which he started.
Maguire was nonetheless selected for the England team for their forthcoming matches against Australia and Italy, despite his difficulties at United.
“Regular game time is really important to me, it has been throughout all my career,” he said. “The actual opportunity to go to West Ham wasn’t really agreed between both clubs and myself, so it wasn’t just my chance to say ‘yes’ and I’m doing.
“The actual opportunity wasn’t there because we didn’t get far enough down the line with it. West Ham are a massive club, my focus is still on Manchester United. I want to fight for my place, but, of course, game time is really important to me.”
Maguire hopes to play in England’s friendly against Australia on October 13.
