A$AP Rocky And Kelly Rowland Honored By Harlem’s Fashion Row Ahead Of NYFW.
On September 5 2023, the historic Apollo Theater in New York City played host to the 16th Annual Harlem’s Fashion Row (HFR) Show and Style Awards.
This grand gala event not only marked the kickoff for this year’s New York Fashion Week but also served as a jubilant celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, as outlined on the organization’s official website.
One notable guest in attendance was Kelly Rowland, who graced the occasion to receive the esteemed Fashion Icon Of The Year Award.
She donned an elegant ensemble, featuring a white strapless corset complemented by a daring plunging neckline and a black skirt. Tim Weatherspoon, her husband since 2014, had the honor of presenting her with the well-deserved trophy.
“Thank you, [Harlem’s Fashion Row], for my award! I thank you from the bottom of my heart for my Fashion ICON [Of The Year] Award! Thank you, [Brandice Daniel] and your team!! I am beyond honored,” Rowland shared with gratitude in an Instagram post.

The evening also marked a meaningful homecoming for Harlem native A$AP Rocky. The rapper, who is now a father of two, returned to his hometown to accept the prestigious Virgil Abloh Award.
This award is named in honour of the late designer who left an enduring imprint on the world of fashion and culture. Notably, in the previous year, the award’s inaugural recipient was Issa Rae.
“To be a trendsetter, it takes a lot of balls, and excuse my French, you feel me? Thank you, y’all. The reason I can talk like this in front of you is because of Harlem,” Rocky proclaimed during his acceptance speech. He also revealed that Abloh created his first album cover and tour visuals for 2013’s LONG.LIVE.A$AP.
