Universal Music Group, the organizer of the Grammy Awards, has announced the cancellation of all events surrounding the ceremony to focus on aiding victims of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. This includes canceling the pre-ceremony artist showcase and the traditional after-Grammy party.

The group shared the decision via Instagram, expressing gratitude to first responders and emergency teams battling the wildfires. They acknowledged Los Angeles as home to many in the music community and reiterated their dedication to supporting artists, staff, and residents affected by the crisis.

The ongoing wildfires in California have displaced over 180,000 residents and caused significant destruction. Among those affected are Nigerian celebrities, including actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, who evacuated her city before returning to Nigeria, and reality star Faith Morey, who documented her 20-minute evacuation ordeal in a video.

The Grammy Awards hold a special place for Nigeria, with artists like Wizkid and Burna Boy being previous recipients. However, the unprecedented nature of the disaster prompted Universal Music Group to prioritize community welfare over celebratory events.

This gesture highlights the solidarity and resilience of the global music community in times of crisis.
