Davido Opens Up on Marriage, Says He and Chioma Lived Together for 8 Years Before Tying the Knot
Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shed light on his marital journey with his wife, Chioma Adeleke, revealing that they lived together for nearly a decade before officially getting married.
During a recent interview, the multiple award-winning singer shared that he and Chioma, whom he met during his university days, moved in together years before making things official, which helped smoothen their transition into marriage.
“My partner and I have been living together for a long time prior to getting married. I met her in my third year in college, and I was lucky enough for us to move in together early—about eight years before we got married,” he revealed.
Despite their deep connection and history together, Davido acknowledged that marriage presents its own set of unique challenges.
“The transition was smooth, but it’s different; getting married is no joke,” he admitted.
The superstar further highlighted how Chioma’s unwavering support and understanding of his demanding career made their relationship stronger.
“Throughout the time we were living together, I was touring and really on the road. She always understood what I did for work, and she knows I’m at my happiest when I work. She knows I love music as she loves being in the kitchen.”
Davido and Chioma eventually sealed their love in June 2024 with a grand traditional wedding in Lagos State. The highly anticipated ceremony, initially planned for 2020, turned into one of the most talked-about events in the entertainment industry.
Before their wedding, the couple welcomed a set of twins in the United States in 2023. Heartwarming images from the hospital showed Chioma cradling their newborns in her arms while seated in a wheelchair, as Davido stood lovingly by her side.
