In the ever-changing Nigerian music scene, one artist’s rise has been especially quick. Divine Ikubor, better known by his stage name Rema, has established himself as one of the biggest Nigerian musicians of 2023 and has been instrumental in bringing African music to a wider audience.
Rema has accomplished nothing less than remarkable in 2023. Rema has undoubtedly made a lasting impression. From becoming the most streamed African album and song on Spotify and collecting over 1 billion plays to his remarkable achievements on the Billboard charts—like becoming the first African act to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 for a year and hitting the highest position for a Nigerian song at number three with “Calm Down”—she has surely left her mark. He has also obtained 30 certifications in more than 15 different nations.
Rema’s collaboration with Selena Gomez on “Calm Down,” which has received over ten gold and platinum certifications in over fifteen countries, is one of the partnership’s most notable accomplishments.
