    Don Jazzy is one of the industry’s most powerful music brands, having pushed a host of artists to fame through two record labels, the now-defunct Mo’hits and the current Mavin Records.

    Numerous young talents have been signed by the music entrepreneur to both record labels throughout the years.

    The dissolution of Mo’hits Record and Don Jazzy’s separation with his former business partner, D’banj, with whom he founded the label, were two of the most important turning points in his career.

    While the closure of the label ushered in fresh beginnings, it also marked the end of some of Don Jazzy’s best friendships.

    With the split came a lot of grudges and beef between people who were formerly united in their cause to make an impact in Nigeria’s music industry.

    Here are some of the artists of the defunct Mo-hits label that Don Jazzy clashed with;

    Kay Switch

    Kayswitch

    Do you recall Kay Switch? He is a former member of the Mo’Hits crew and D’Banj’s younger brother.

    Many people might be surprised to learn that Kay Switch did not release even one single when he was signed to the label for approximately eight years. It makes sense that, after leaving Mo’hits, he has referred to Don Jazzy in several of his song lyrics.

    Kay Switch alleged that his brother’s former girlfriend did not believe in his musical abilities and hence denied him multiple opportunities to show himself. Even if he does not use any names, a keen listener of Kay Switch’s songs would be able to identify the subject of his lyrics.

    This was the one that devastated fans’ hearts. Who has not heard of D’Banj and Don Jazzy’s story?

    They had a formidable and enviable partnership with their former label, producing success after hit. However, the Mo’Hits ship crashed in 2012 and both parties split to form their own record labels, with only Kay Switch following his brother to DB Records and the other members sticking with Don Jazzy and his Mavin Records.

    According to reports, the D’Banj/Don Jazzy rivalry arose because the former wanted to expand his musical horizons to the US while the latter opted to remain in his musical comfort zone and stay in Nigeria, where they were already successful.

    They have since settled and have been seen at events together, and fans have had the opportunity to witness them perform some of the major hits they created together.

    Wande Coal was one of Don Jazzy’s loyalists who followed him from the defunct Mo’Hits label to Mavin Records and got in trouble with his former boss when he released the song Babyface.

    Wande Coal had already demonstrated a desire to go it alone by starting his Black Diamond record label before the release of the song.

    Things took a turn for the worst when Don Jazzy accused Wande Coal in front of the world on social media of stealing his ideas for the Babyface, forcing the latter to officially announce his departure from Mavin Records.

    It turned out to be a massive display of embarrassment from former partners since many believed their difficulties should have been resolved discreetly. The dispute influenced the song’s acceptance.
