The Afrobeats sensation, who just released a remix that features Grammy Award-winning singer Ed Sheeran, is already creating waves with his decision to include the UK act.
Speaking to Deezer in this new video, Fireboy explains how he created his hit song on a trip to San Francisco this year, also giving an insight into the idea behind the song as evidenced in the lyrics.
The singer also revealed how excited Ed Sheeran was when he sent the song to him requesting a remix.
Speaking about the process of making his song, Fireboy said that he was tipsy while in the studio and decided to try something in the booth and came out with the song “Peru”.
“It was my first time in the United States and I was supposed to go and see my associates at the empire and just vibe; pay a courtesy visit to Shizzi who produced the song in his studio. At the studio that night, I was tipsy and I just got in the booth.
He played the beat. I was like, ‘Um, that’s a vibe.’ And in 30 minutes to 35 minutes, I was literally just singing my story. It’s just a young boy that found himself in a new place and is willing to just try out new stuff.”
Fireboy told the host how his new partner American artist Ed Sheeran was excited about making the remix of the song “Peru”.
“Ed Sheeran heard the song and loved it. He was so excited about the whole process; the whole vibe of making the song. He asked for the lyrics, what every word meant, and all of that. In 30 minutes, he was done with his won verse too”.
