Fireboy DML Reflects on Pre-Fame Struggles: “I Almost Sold Rechargeable Lamps Under Ajah Bridge”

Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML has revealed the humbling depths of his pre-fame struggles, sharing that he was on the verge of becoming a street trader before music turned his life around.
During a recent appearance on the 90s Baby Show in London, the Obaa Sima hitmaker (real name Adedamola Adefolahan) opened up about how close he came to selling rechargeable lamps under Ajah Bridge in Lagos.
Despite holding a university degree, Fireboy said he was hustling hard to stay afloat, even working at a pepper soup joint before his breakthrough.
“I met this guy under Ajah Bridge who was telling me about the business. I told him I was interested,” he recalled. “It felt more dignified at the time compared to selling pepper soup, which I was already doing at a joint.”
Fireboy also shared that his parents were unaware of the menial jobs he was doing. “It was crazy, bro. But now we thank God,” he added.
