I’m a millionaire, I can’t make the same old songs – Fireboy DML
Nigerian singer and songwriter Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has addressed the evolution of his music style and advised fans not to expect him to revert to the sound he started his career with.
The ‘Playboy‘ artist mentioned in an interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos that his music has undergone significant changes since the release of his debut album, ‘Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps,’ in 2019.
Fireboy acknowledged that his exposure and success, including becoming a millionaire, have naturally influenced his artistic direction.
He candidly stated that, having achieved millionaire status, it would be unrealistic for him to create another project similar to his debut album. Fireboy also shared that there were certain things he promised not to do until after attaining millionaire status, and he has since explored those areas.
For those who miss his “old” sound, Fireboy suggested revisiting his debut album, indicating that his musical journey has progressed and evolved over time.
Fireboy said: “Sometimes you may think you are one person, then N50 million will enter your account and you will realise you are a different person. There were a lot of things I said I would never do or be until I became a millionaire.
“So, how do you expect a 27-year-old millionaire, who has experienced life to make another album like ‘LTG’ again? Think about it. How? Even the album [‘LTG’] it’s not every time you going to be in the mood to listen to it. Sometimes, it maybe ‘Apollo’, or ‘Playboy.’ I think people need to understand that artists are human beings too and they need to grow.”
