“Heartbreak? I’m Not Ready for That” — Fireboy DML Opens Up About Love and Emotional Boundaries

Nigerian music star Adedamola Adefolahan, known to fans as Fireboy DML, has revealed that despite being the voice behind some of Afrobeats’ most emotional love songs, he has never actually experienced heartbreak — and he’s not in a hurry to.
In a candid sit-down on the 90s Baby Show, the Playboy crooner shared his thoughts on emotional vulnerability, love, and the silent lessons that come from observing heartbreak from a distance.
“I have never had my heart broken,” Fireboy confessed. “I wanted to experience heartbreak, just for the emotional depth, but not anymore — not at this age. I think it would ruin me.”
Rather than learning through pain, the 29-year-old singer took a more thoughtful route: he spoke directly with a few women he’d previously been romantically involved with, trying to understand the emotional toll of heartbreak. And what he heard convinced him to tread carefully.
“What I heard was not nice,” he said. “Also, I think we break our own hearts. That’s my theory. Ninety percent of the time, if you’ve had your heart broken, look inward — you definitely had something to do with it.”
Fireboy went further, offering a bit of wisdom drawn from both observation and introspection. He believes heartbreak often stems from people ignoring the signs — those red flags and gut feelings that quietly warn us early on.
“There were moments when your instincts told you not to go there, but the heart wants what it wants,” he noted. “It’s a very painful experience. One I’m not willing to risk right now.”
His honesty has struck a chord with fans, especially those who resonate with the complex dance between emotional curiosity and self-preservation.
In a world where love is often glorified without its consequences, Fireboy’s clarity offers a refreshing reminder: not every lesson needs to be learned the hard way.
