Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML has joined forces with acclaimed American production duo Take A Daytrip for a new track titled “Story,” crafted for the Sprite Limelight project.

Available now across all major streaming services, Story follows Fireboy’s 2024 album Adedamola and his earlier single Everyday, signaling his unstoppable evolution as a major player in global music.
Take A Daytrip—celebrated for their genre-bending work on hits like Lil Nas X’s Industry Baby and Juice WRLD’s Lucid Dreams—injects a bold, experimental flair into Fireboy’s signature Afrobeats style, resulting in a profoundly emotional and widely relatable anthem.
Blending Afrobeats, alternative R&B, and experimental pop, Story finds Fireboy delivering a deeply introspective performance centered on heartbreak, healing, and personal resilience. His lyrics lay bare his vulnerabilities, tracing his emotional journey through love and self-discovery.
In the pre-chorus, he asserts, “I’m on a wave, please don’t kill my vibe, Imma do what I wanna do, it’s my life,” a testament to his refusal to be boxed in. The anthemic chorus, “Dem man tryna change my story, but shout out to the ones that know me,” is a bold embrace of authenticity and loyalty to those who truly understand him.
Reflecting on his meteoric rise since his 2019 debut Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps, Fireboy raps, “Man, I’m 5 years deep, it’s a little change, I don’t even have to speak, cause they know my name,” offering a glimpse into the silent battles and triumphs behind his fame.

Take A Daytrip’s masterful production underpins Story with a vibrant, ever-shifting sonic palette—melding airy shakers, lush synth textures, and a haunting saxophone riff to create a rich, soulful backdrop for Fireboy’s powerful vocals.
Their trademark tag, “Daytrip took it to 10,” signals the track’s wide-reaching ambitions, merging the rhythmic heartbeat of Afrobeats with the experimental soul of alt-R&B and pop.
Ahead of its release, Fireboy teased the emotional depth of the song on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Come along on the journey to see how I navigate the heat in my life, while still bringing the fire,” thanking Sprite Limelight for providing the creative space to explore new sounds.
Since bursting onto the scene, Fireboy—real name Adedamola Adefolahan—has become a powerhouse in Afrobeats, with critically acclaimed projects like Apollo (2020), which earned an 8.3 score from Pitchfork, and Playboy (2022), which landed on the Billboard 200.
Meanwhile, Take A Daytrip, comprised of David Biral and Denzel Baptiste, brings their Grammy-nominated expertise to the collaboration, having shaped the sounds of countless cross-genre hits.
With Story, Fireboy not only cements his reputation as an innovative storyteller but also reaffirms his ability to fuse global sounds while staying rooted in his Nigerian heritage. As the single builds momentum, it’s shaping up to be a landmark in Fireboy’s 2025 journey.
