Fela’s Daughter Motunrayo Kuti Calls Out Wizkid Over Comment About Fela’s Legacy

Motunrayo Kuti, daughter of late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has publicly reacted to controversial remarks made by Nigerian singer Wizkid, accusing him of disrespecting her father’s legacy.
In a now-viral video circulating on social media, the digital designer expressed anger over Wizkid’s claim that he is bigger than Fela, describing the statement as deeply insulting to her family. Motunrayo responded with a highly personal outburst, in which she attacked Wizkid’s family background while defending the stature of her late father.
Speaking emotionally, she dismissed Wizkid’s comparison and insisted that his influence does not surpass Fela’s historical and cultural impact. She also made remarks about Wizkid’s parents, stating that the singer is only “bigger than his parents,” not Fela.
Her comments quickly sparked widespread reactions online. While some supporters defended her emotional response, others criticised her for escalating the feud by making it personal and dragging family members into the ongoing Wizkid–Seun Kuti controversy.
The incident adds another layer to the heated debate surrounding comparisons between modern Afrobeats stars and Afrobeat pioneers, a conversation that continues to divide fans and artists across the Nigerian music space.
