Court orders the release of Speed Darlington amidst defamation case with Burna Boy
The Federal High Court has ordered the immediate release of Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, popularly known as Akpi, who has been in custody over a defamation case.
This development follows socialite Cubana Chief Priest’s public pledge to assist in securing Speed Darlington’s freedom amid the latter’s ongoing online feud with Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy. Cubana Chief Priest had earlier stated that efforts were being made to facilitate the singer’s release.
Abubakar Marshal, Esq., has been designated as surety for Speed Darlington in compliance with the court’s ruling.
Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting its significance.
He wrote: “The Federal High Court has directed the Nigerian Police to comply with the order to release Speed Darlington immediately pending the hearing of the substantive matter. The court further directs Abubakar Marshal, Esq. to stand as surety for Akpi.”
This ruling represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing legal case involving the controversial singer, signaling progress in his fight for justice. Fans and supporters have expressed relief and joy at the news, anticipating his return.
