Wizkid’s forthcoming 5th studio album titled ‘More Love Less Ego’ is expected to arrive this year 2022.
However, if only Wizkid can go against his 3-year album run as he used to then More Love Less Ego will probably arrive this year, but as we all know Wizkid, he’s somewhat a perfectionist using the milestone of his last album achieved.
Wizkid’s Made In Lagos album is the biggest and most impacted album of this decade, in terms of sales, awards, tours and so on.
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as Wizkid is one of the biggest and most decorated artistes in Africa, debuting in the music scene in 2009, and releasing a classic debut album titled ‘Superstar’ in 2010, one of the greatest debut albums of all time in Nigeria.
Wizkid has always been known for taking time to cook an album, each with a 3-year interval, (superstar 2010, Ayo 2014, SFTOS 2017, Made in Lagos 2020) and now ‘More Love Less Ego‘ which is expected to arrive in 2023.
Wizkid had always been a risk-taker, introducing sounds at his pace, and relatively considered as the blueprints to a majority of the newbies and the Nigerian music industry at large.
However, he experimented with the ‘Sound From The Other Side’ (SFTOS) album in 2017, an album that featured the Canadian rapper Drake and other top American artistes, although the album was criminally underrated and wasn’t promoted enough, he shot few videos from the album and moved on, but now he has mastered his sound and it’s been well accepted globally.
Then boom to the Made In Lagos era, in October 2020 Wizkid dropped the album that goes on to become the biggest album so far in Africa, breaking certain numerous records on charts, awards, and tours.
Some of the records are;
- First African Album To Debut On Spotify Global Album Charts
- Record For Longest Charting African Album On Billboard World Album Charts (The longest African Album on the Billboard World Album Charts had been the legend Cesaria Evora’s album ‘Cesaria, It had been the longest-charting African Album for 27 years till Wizkid tied the record Monday, February 14, 2022)
-
First African and Nigerian song to receive Platinum and 2x Platinum certification In the USA (Essence)
- First Nigerian song and highest charting Nigerian song on Billboard Hot 100
- Become the highest and longest charting Nigerian album of all time on Billboard 200 at #28
- Highest grossing tours by Nigerian artistes (having top American starts in his concert)
To mention but a few.
What we should be expecting from More Love Less Ego?
Wizkid has been that guy who always thrives in quality, as everyone can see with the sound quality of Made In Lagos and choice of features, he went straight to artistes that matches the energy of each song on the album, from Damian Marley, H.E.R, Ella Mai, Tems, Burna Boy, Tay Iwar, Projexx and Terri.
He didn’t necessarily look after that usual mainstream star power like people expected, he was very intentional on everything concerning the album, the album didn’t blow by chance or luck, it was the result of hard work and input with the right team.
Now, he’s about to do another album, which means the expectations are very high, everyone is waiting to know if he can break his own record or would be the victim of his own success, but then we all know Wizkid is that guy, yes! he will always want to do more than what he has done.
According to the Starboy, he said the album has been completed, and hinted that he will feature an iconic singer, of course, we don’t know who that might be, so all fingers are crossed, he also hinted at some local collaborators like Alpha P, Wande Coal, Ayra Starr and others undisclosed.
However, More Love Less Ego is going to be a very much important album for continued afrobeat global domination and as to why Wizkid is very special in the Nigerian music industry.
