Man City 1-1 Everton: Player ratings as Haaland misses penalty in frustrating draw
Manchester City’s struggles continued as their winless run was extended on Boxing Day, with Pep Guardiola’s side failing to secure victory against Everton in a frustrating 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
Christmas brought little cheer for the reigning champions, who were presented with a golden opportunity to bounce back from their recent slump. However, they were left to reflect on yet another disappointing performance.
City took an early lead through Bernardo Silva, whose scuffed effort from a tight angle sneaked past Jordan Pickford into the bottom corner after a spell of dominance. Silva could have doubled the lead but missed a clear chance, shooting wide.
Everton, largely on the defensive, created few opportunities but made the most of one just before the break. A cross that evaded two City defenders found Iliman Ndiaye, who expertly controlled the ball and struck a sublime shot into the top corner, stunning the Etihad crowd.
The second half offered Manchester City a chance to restore their lead when Erling Haaland stepped up to take a penalty after Savinho was fouled. However, Jordan Pickford emerged victorious in his duel with the Norwegian striker, diving to his right to make the save. Haaland’s frustration deepened when his headed rebound was disallowed for offside.
The result leaves City searching for answers as their once-dominant form continues to evade them, while Everton will take heart from a hard-fought point against the champions.

The Everton goalkeeper did everything he could to put Erling Haaland off from the penalty spot.
And it worked.
