Erik ten Hag reveals comments to the referee, resulting in a yellow card vs. Luton and a touchline ban.
Erik ten Hag has revealed what he told referee Graham Scott during Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday, which resulted in a touchline ban for the club’s next Premier League game.
The Dutchman has three yellow cards this season and will now be forced to watch from the stands when Manchester United travel to Everton following the November international break.
Ten Hag was penalized for complaining to referee Scott over the granting of a throw-in during Saturday’s close encounter, in which Victor Lindelof’s strike proved enough to win. He emphasized in his post-match comments that he couldn’t believe it since it was an apparent error by the referees.
“It was about a moment so clear,” he explained. “A throw-in but it was the second time. I was on top of it and it was so clear and obvious it was our ball – that was my remark and therefore I got booked.”
Asked if he would receive a self-imposed fine, Ten Hag added: “When the players get a red card, they’ll probably be fined but for a booking, a yellow, they don’t get fined.
“To a certain point, of course you have to accept decisions and I should do as well.”
Later this month, when United visit Everton, Ten Hag will be there in the Goodison Park bleachers to witness. With three victories from their last five Premier League games—including a 3-2 victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday—the Toffees have turned around their season.
Asked how his side would prepare for that game without him overseeing proceedings on the touchline, he said: “We have a very competent coaching staff and they will take over.
“Of course to a certain point I can be involved but I can say my coaching staff is very competent.”
